Overview

PMEGP merges two earlier schemes (PMRY and REGP) into a single credit-linked subsidy programme for first-generation entrepreneurs. A bank loan is taken, the promoter contributes a small margin, and the government provides a subsidy ranging from 15% to 35% depending on the category and location.

Key features

  • Maximum project cost: ₹50 lakh (manufacturing), ₹20 lakh (service)
  • Subsidy: 15–35% depending on category, area (rural/urban) and special category status
  • Promoter contribution: 5% (special category) or 10% (general)
  • CGTMSE coverage available for collateral-free loans
  • Implemented by KVIC, KVIB and District Industries Centres (DIC)

Eligibility

  • Indian citizen above 18 years
  • At least 8th standard pass for projects above ₹10 lakh (manufacturing) / ₹5 lakh (service)
  • Only new units — existing units are not eligible
  • SHGs, trusts, co-operatives and production co-operative societies eligible
  • Beneficiary cannot have availed any other subsidy under any PMEGP-like scheme
